Autumn, as I imagine it,
is frame after frame of plenty —
a circle that never closes,
and from it, hope without end.
This afternoon,
not a breath of wind.
The golden paddies lie still, unrippled,
light spilled with a lavish hand.
Those who sowed begin to reap —
the road to harvest leaves its footprints, plain to follow.
And now —
we may talk, may drift in reverie, may leap for joy,
may truly touch the fragrance of the rice,
may steal a share of this boundless delight,
may laugh out loud at the one we love.
My face, too, grows full, as the season would have it;
my jawline blurs into something tender,
and my waist gathers a small harvest of its own.
The world and I, at ease with one another.
And that is good.
